Here is a list of America's Top 10 Roller Coasters
Welcome, thrill seekers! This exciting page features a rundown of some of the best United States roller coasters. Proceed at your own risk.
The tallest roller coaster in the entire world is the Kingda Ka. It was built in 2005 at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey.
The ride measures 456 feet in height, and is also the world's fastest roller coaster, reaching speeds of up to 128 miles per hour. The Kinda-Ka is always listed among America's Top 10 Roller Coasters.
The next tallest (as well as the next fastest) roller coaster in the world is the Top Thrill Dragster. This ride was erected in 2003 at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. The structure measures 420 feet in height and reaches speeds of up to 120 miles per hour.
Cedar Point also features the longest STEEL roller coaster in the United States. It is also the 5th longest steel roller coaster in the world, for those who care to keep track of such things. The Millenium Force, built in 2000, measures 6,595 feet in length.
The world's longest roller coaster of any kind is a wooden contraption which is also located in Ohio. Visitors can experience this ride at Paramount's King's Island in King's Mill. Constructed in 1979, this roller coaster, affectionately known as The Beast is 7,400 feet long.
Leap the Dips at Lakemont Park in Altoona, Pennsylvania is the world's oldest operating roller coaster. It opened for operation in 1902 and eventually closed down for safety reasons. After being closed for several years, Leap the Dips was fully restored and re-opened in 1999. Leap the Dips (pictured above) is an old-style "side friction" roller coaster, the only one of its kind in North America.
Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois features Goliath, the world's fastest wooden roller coaster. In other words, the one with the steepest drop.
Banshee at Kings Island Park in Mason, Ohio is the world's longest inverted (upside down) roller coaster.
Verruckt in Kansas City is the world's tallest water slide, just a few feet taller than Niagara Falls.
El Loco, located at Circus Circus in Las Vegas, banks to the outside at a 45-degree angle.
Finally, try a newly designed steel coaster called The Thunderbolt at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York.
