Washington is a state located in the Pacific Northwest region of the continental United States.
Washington state is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the west, the state of Oregon to the south, the state of Idaho to the east, and Canada's British Columbia to the north.
With an area of more than 71,000 square miles, the state of Washington ranks 18th in size among all fifty U.S. states.

Some of Washington's most popular tourist attractions are the Olympic Peninsula, the Columbia River Gorge, Seattle's Pike Place Market, and the Space Needle.
Washington was the first U.S. state to play a Beatles song on the radio.
The state of Washington has more glaciers than any other mainland state.
Mega corporations Starbucks and Microsoft were both founded in Washington state.
The Northgate shopping mall, built in 1950, was the world's first indoor shopping mall.
Famous Washington natives include Bob Barker (TV host), Bing Crosby (singer and actor), Jimmy Hendrix (guitarist), Gary Larsen (cartoonist), and Adam West (Batman), among others.
