California is a U.S. state which is located on the Pacific coast
of North America.
With a land area of about 160,000 square miles, the
state of California is the 3rd largest state in the nation. Only the states of Alaska and Texas are larger in land area than California.
Beyond the borders of California are the state of Oregon to the north, the states of Nevada and
Arizona to the east, and part of Mexico (Baja California) to the south.
California, which has 58 counties, is home to more people than
any other state in America. Its largest cities are Los Angeles, San
Diego, San Jose, and San Francisco. All are located along the state's
coastal regions.
