Alaska is America's largest state, located in the extreme northwest. Alaska is both the largest and the least densely populated state in America. Alaska is more than twice the size of Texas, which is the second largest state in America.

The capital of Alaska is Juneau. The largest cities in Alaska are Anchorage and Fairbanks. There is a very upscale train that travels between these two cities.

In Fairbanks, the temperature extremes are most severe, with summer days reaching up into he nineties, and winters as cold as sixty degrees below zero.

Despite being part of the United States, Alaska is separated from the mainland by about 500 miles of Canada, and the western tip of Alaska is just across the Bering Strait from Russia.

Because of its many islands, Alaska has about 34,000 miles of tidal shoreline. The state is also home to more than 3 million lakes. Needless to say, fishing is very popular here.

Alaska has a relatively high percentage of indigenous people such as Tlingit, Haida, and Inuit, among others. In fact, the number of Alaska natives hovers at around five percent.
