Shown above is a Kayak Travel scene from White River in north central Oregon.
Oregon's White River Falls State Park is located just east of Tygh Valley along Highway 216.
The park offers excellent views of the plunging White River Falls, where adventurous kayakers endure a ninety-foot vertical drop.
The river's unique features include its milky color in late summer and early fall, and its isolation from other rivers. Also, this river is home to a unique species of Redband trout, found only in this area.
For those who prefer less excitement, the park is also a popular place for hiking, fishing, camping, and nature photography.
Nearby towns include Maupin, Kingsley, and Pine Hollow.
The park opens in early spring when the desert flowers bloom, and closes after the leaves turn in autumn.
A hiking trail leads directly downstream from the parking area to the bottom of the falls.
The hydroelectric power plant at the bottom of the falls generated electricity for Wasco and Sherman Counties between 1910 and 1960.
